RESULTS FUEL CONFIDENCE IN zPRIME™ AMONG MAJOR MAINFRAME USERS
Corporate IT organizations consistently confirm NEON zPrime’s ability to safely shift thousands of costly mainframe MIPS to specialty processors with no change to hardware or software

SUGAR LAND, TX. – July 29, 2009 – NEON Enterprise Software’s disruptive new mainframe product called zPrime, which shifts massive amounts of core mainframe processing workloads from IBM System z central processors to cheaper-to-use System z specialty processors, is consistently proving itself among major corporations as a viable means to reduce the high cost of mainframe use.

Unlike any other product available today, zPrime enables a company with a System z mainframe to run its core business applications using System z Integrated Information Processors (zIIPs) and z Application Assist Processors (zAAPs), which are also known as “specialty processors.” By shifting such large core workloads from a mainframe central processor to low-cost specialty processors, users are able to dramatically reduce the costs of running their core business applications to a mere fraction of what it costs when using central processors.

“Market reception of zPrime has been phenomenal,” said Lacy H. Edwards, chairman and CEO of NEON. “Companies trialing zPrime are not only validating the software safely does what we say it can, they are exuding confidence in zPrime as a viable means to reduce mainframe costs.”

zPrime, which was launched for general availability June 30, underwent extensive and rigorous testing earlier this year by 12 initial trial companies, some of which are the best-known corporate brands in the world (more than 50 companies are in various stages of testing the software today). For example, one of the companies documented routing 90 percent of its mainframe Information Management System (IMS) online processing, 44 percent of its Customer Information Control System (CICS) online processing, and 93 percent of its IMS and DB2 batch processing to zIIPs. The company determined it will not only slash its cost of using MIPS on central processors, but avert an impending MIPS use overage and associated cost penalties. zPrime also nullified a projected need to upgrade the company’s mainframe with two additional central processing engines this year.

In another case, a mainframe user in the financial industry projected cuts in overall transaction costs with its outsourcer by up to 50 percent using zPrime. Similar results were produced by some the best-known companies in the financial services, banking, property and casualty insurance, consumer products and technology sectors.

“In recent weeks I‘ve analyzed potential savings for several mainframe users with environments that differ greatly in size and they all stand to realize significant savings with the shifts they could make,” said Al Sherkow, a data center capacity planning expert at I/S Management Strategies, Ltd. “I’ve helped corporations solve mainframe pricing puzzles for many years, and nothing in my experience has come anywhere close to zPrime’s proven ability to reduce the cost of mainframe use.”

“We released zPrime with every consideration for saving mainframe users a lot of money,” NEON CEO Edwards said. “We took into account every possible issue they might encounter as an organization with responsibility for the lifeblood of their company.”

“It took some of the brightest, most experienced developers in the mainframe business years of research to make zPrime do what it does,” Edwards added. “zPrime saves real and significant dollars without jeopardizing any needs of our customers—including the right to run the data center hardware they own as they see fit.”
